Third Party Events

Through out the years the Hospice Foundation has benefited from many community events hosted by various organizations, church groups and individuals who have wanted to help.  Raffles, teas, bake sales, fairs, ice cream socials and variety shows have been held   in various locations throughout the Valley.

“Forget-Me-Not”
Charity Flower Show - Scotian Gold Garden Centre staff teamed up with community volunteers to celebrate gardening and raise funds for the Hospice Foundation.  They raised $1200 which will go towards a special “memory garden” at the hospice once it is built.  The women at the heart of this event are seeking new ways to add to the “memory garden fund” that they have started.  Also, they are prepared to “dig in” as volunteers once the Hospice is ready for gardeners.  Thank you Debbie, Brenda, Jana, Nina, and Sue!

Sherwood Forest Charity Spirit
Robin Hood’s spirit of giving has been shown by the campers at Sherwood Forest, in Coldbrook.   They have donated close to $2,500 to the Hospice Foundation and have had a lot of fun doing it too.  During the summer season instead of gathering around a camp fire they gathered around the roulette wheel…as they host an annual Monte Carlo Night to raise money for charity.   This group should be commended for their tremendous community spirit.  They have given to many charities in this community and we are grateful to be named one of them.

Life Cycles… is a series of 7 watercolours that have been recreated as gift cards.  The images depict the cycles of life.  The artist was Kate (Kathleen) Mortimer who died from cancer.  Her legacy lives on through her art and all those she touched in her life.  watercolourevent2She was able to die in comfort and peace because of the strong community that made it possible.   The money raised from the sale of the gift cards will be used for creative hospice programs such as music and art therapy.

Voices for Hospice – “Memories”
October 20, 2007

Update: Voices for Hospice: Memories was a wonderful celebration of memories, and of amazing talent and kindness.  Bravo & thank you! Click here for pictures.

In the late 1980’s a palliative care unit on the edge of London held a concert to raise vital funds and public awareness. That one event has become well over 500 simultaneous concerts, for over 400 local hospices, in more than 60 countries.

Here is how you can be part of this global wave of support for hospice:
