Valley Hospice

About Valley Hospice

In 2000, The Valley Hospice Foundation incorporated as a registered charity in response to a community need to offer dying Valley residents - who for any reason are unable to die at home - and their loved ones a welcoming, quiet and comfortable alternative to hospital-based palliative care. The Foundation is a volunteer-lead organization.

The Hospice is a significant part of a larger capital fundraising campaign that also supported the redevelopment of Valley Regional Hospital. Since launching a joint capital campaign – Our Community Our Health – in 2009, the Foundation and the Valley Regional Hospital Foundation raised more than $8 million to build the Hospice and fund projects at Valley Regional Hospital.

The Valley Hospice Foundation’s mandate continues as an integral part of the Hospice development and operation to ensure the Valley community receives the Hospice it generously supported. Valley Hospice Foundation is represented on a Hospice Project Advisory Committee to plan and implement the Hospice.

Once the Hospice is operational, an Integrated Hospice Palliative Care Advisory Committee will be formed with significant membership from Valley Hospice Foundation. The Foundation will continue to operate as a fundraising vehicle to help the Hospice provide the best support and care for patients and their families.

Please Support Our Work

Our scope of support encompasses key issues affecting hospice and palliative care.

While some choose to direct their gifts to a specific area that’s near and dear to their hearts, often the best way to make an impact is by giving an unrestricted gift. This type of gift enables support of important needs as they arise.

When you give a gift you can be sure that we will put your gift to good use in the area of care that will benefit most from your generosity.

One would want to go out surrounded by calm-orderly, unhurried, unbossy. There is no reason why this can’t happen.

“During the five years of our Dad’s condition, we were fortunate to have a great support system, with amazing friends and family. Our family can’t express enough how thankful we are for this support system. Dealing with end of life for a loved one, we were able to witness firsthand and understand the necessity of a Hospice in the community”.

A volunteer sat with my mother and me at my dying father’s bedside at VRH several years ago. Her gentle warmth and compassion eased our stress and sadness during the last day of my father’s life.
